If you take an angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor to help with your heart failure, you may get different side effects from someone taking them for high blood pressure.

Some of the more common side effects for ACE inhibitors being used to treat heart failure are:

  • Chest pain (2.1-3.0%)
  • Cough (0.5-35%)
  • Diarrhea (1.0-2.2%)
  • Dizziness (4.0-23%)
  • Hypotension (3.8-11.0%)
  • Nausea/vomiting (1.3-2.4%)

ACE inhibitor pills generally don’t have too many side effects. Most side effects go away if you stop taking the medicine.

Talk to your doctor if you develop any unwanted side effects. Your doctor can help you decide if ACE inhibitors are still the best option for you.
