Yes, chlorthalidone lowers blood pressure and the chances of blood pressure related problems like heart disease and stroke. High blood pressure raises the chances of having a stroke or a heart attack. The more you lower your blood pressure, the lower your chances are of having these problems.

Studies have shown that chlorthalidone lowers the chances of blood pressure related problems.

In one study of people with high blood pressure, scientists gave half of the people a placebo pill ("sugar pill" with no medicine) and the other half chlorthalidone. In the placebo group, 8 out of 100 people had a stroke while in the chlorthalidone group, only 5 out of 100 people had a stroke.

In another study of people with high blood pressure, chlorthalidone was compared to two other blood pressure medicines. From this study, scientists found that chlorthalidone worked as well as the other two medicines in preventing a heart attack and worked even better than one of the other medicines in preventing stroke. They also found that the number of people who developed heart failure was smallest in the chlorthalidone group.

Remember, high blood pressure increases the risk of heart disease and stroke. Chlorthalidone lowers the risk of these problems.
