Caffeine raises blood pressure (BP) in some people soon after it is consumed. On average the top BP number goes up 8 mm Hg for a few hours after you drink a cup or two of coffee. But this effect doesn’t last very long.

Doctors aren’t sure if drinking coffee, tea, or other caffeinated drinks every day makes your BP stay higher. When it comes to your BP, it is not clear how much caffeine is healthy. Results of studies vary widely. Some studies even show that there may be benefits to drinking coffee or tea, probably because of other things in the drinks.

Caffeine may raise BP, so it’s best to limit your coffee and tea!
