There are a few ways that prediabetes can be diagnosed, but all of them involve blood sugar tests.

To be diagnosed with prediabetes, you have to have one positive test.

The different blood sugar tests that can be used to diagnose prediabetes are:

  • Hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c or just A1c) test
  • Fasting plasma glucose (sometimes shortened to FPG)
  • Oral glucose tolerance test (sometimes shortened to OGTT)
